LOL. You gotta love that "in other news, water is wet" comment. Far different response from when, say Ellen DeGeneres came out. Here's the thing though: notice this comment about gays being the new "protected class"?  Watch this.  It only takes a minute to go from the margin to the center sometimes and once in the center, there can be pushback from what is seen as privilege and the new "trend", particularly in an era that believes deeply in a perceived lack of resources, opportunities at the moment.  Care will need to be taken all the way around, in the very near future.

CNN news anchor Anderson Cooper has publicly declared that he is gay. Twitter exploded with gay and straight celebrities congratulating him. There has long been speculation about Cooper's sexuality. Cooper came out to the Daily Beast’s Andrew Sullivan in an email posted to Sullivan’s Daily Dish blog, and within three hours, the post had 100,000 shares on Facebook. Most people, according to the comments, are not surprised.

What Others Are Saying...

Good for him. Glad he feels safe and confident to come out. That said, it was as surprising as Rosie coming out as a lesbian. … This isn't really what you'd call news so much as it is confirmation of what anybody with their eyes open and half a brain already figured out. … Well, it's about time! He'll be a terrific role model for gay youth - congrats! … In other news - water is wet.

Anderson's eloquent response to speculations/questions concerning his sexuality is very admirable. He honestly shouldn't have had to explain the fact that he's gay to anyone, but his act of standing up and stating it proudly for the record will hopefully give courage to those who still hide in fear.  … Thanks for Telling us Mr. Cooper, but you didn't have to. We all love and admire your work. Your private life is just that PRIVATE. … Who cares! This is not even remotely shocking. … I admire you for your bravery!

Nothing personal but who cares? He is failing at his job and now he wants to hide behind a protected class? What matters most are his ratings and they are dismal. … The big picture is how many well-known people have come out this year. I feel there is a real change, which is really good. … It means even less people will watch him and he'll get more shows on CNN. … Move over Ann Curry (that was short-lived)!   TVN has a new Star!
