where the SmartPower generation connects

Rihanna

Slippery slope for Rihanna, huh?  In the SmartPower era where individuals are taking more control than ever, under-estimating both their needs and power is dangerous.  This is particularly true for the realm of celebrity, that we have said repeatedly here, is undergoing re-evaluation.  The celebrities still seem to be missing the shift and behaving as if it's business as usual.  Let's see if and how consumers truly begin to talk back to events such as this with swift and immediate reaction by not only by-passing purchases but creating crowd-gathered demands directed to artists when they behave in such a manner.  We've all had break-ups before and been through off by them,  RiRi, but one can't just show up 3 hours late for work and not expect anyone to notice....

Fans bite back today regarding Rihanna.  As everyone knows, the sexy pop singer is on tour, but encountering yet more problems. The entourage was set to hit Boston but showed up three hours late.  it is reported that the singer offered no excuse and even put on a poor show.  Fans were truly not having it and began booing.  Jump down to check out some of the comments from the digital sphere on this one!

Dear Rhianna, everyone is sick of your antics. If you spent as much time writing songs as you do partying and updating instagram you might not have to rely on more talented people to make you successful.

She totally disrespected her fans. They should respond by giving her none of their hard earned money going forward...

I have seen a multitude of articles along the same vein...Rhianna making people wait for hours to see her in concert, at a showing, etc, blah blah. If those people are so angered by her disrespect, why don't they show it where it counts? Her wallet.

Interesting here.  As we witness what may very well be a move to a matriarchal society, people seem to have an issue with this couple and Rihanna's actions in particular.  Women are the primary breadwinners of families now, women out-index in college attendance and more.  So naturally as these gender shifts take place, we are questioning and re-evaluating roles, reactions and sentiment toward and from women.  Rihanna's behavior actually serves as a conduit to this observation of values in changing times.  Yet the public also seems to be a bit weary of the media continuing to tag this descriptive each and every time any mention is made of either of them.  They seem to seek a different approach, rather than a simple tag or descriptive.  Welcome to the SmartPower era.  In the meantime, wondering how many people will be turning inward to evaluate their own relationships, given that Valentine's Day is right around the corner.  Hmm.....

Four years after Chris Brown assaulted Rihanna, the couple made a very public appearance together at the Grammys 2013 sitting next to one another. The two, reportedly, were showing a great deal of smilies toward each other along with much affection. There been many disapproving murmurs flowing around about the couple stating the Rihanna's actions make no longer a role model to women, but from the Grammy photos it looks as if the young couple is still very much in love. We now check out fan reaction.  More for or against?  Let's see...

I know she doesn't owe anybody anything and she has a right to live her own life and make her own decisions, but it's such a shame that she had an opportunity to be a role model, lead an example for strong women who have dealt with domestic abuse, and yet she runs back to the scum bag.

Source:

I’m not a fan and I believe domestic violence is bad, but is the media going to reference the assault every time they mention Chris Brown? You won’t see an Iron Man 3 review mentioning Robert Downey Jr.’s jail stints or an article mentioning Sean Penn’s penchant for hugging dictators...

All that comes to mind are those battered photos of her. Kind of difficult to be happy for them... Just being honest...

This is an interesting combo of society working through new values regarding relationships and using celebrity relationships as the petri dishes to enable that, while also examining new values regarding celebrity and how we regard them, what they do, and what value they actually have in the new era.  Most are frowning upon such display that once was regarded an asset.  Will we start to see the draw of reality show-all, tell-all begin to shift as well?  Let's see.  One thing is for certain, between RiRi's bad press on her treatment of journalists on the airplane promo blitz and now this, it's been a rough few days for the steamy songstress.  Are she and her team aware of the changes taking place all around them or are they just picking out the next fab hair color for her?  Hmmmm....

Rihanna and Chris Brown cannot yet officially be called "a couple" but there have been rumors and questions for several months now as to whether or not the two have reunited. Some say Rihanna gave an answer after tweeting a photo of Brown laying shirtless in bed. His face is not visible but his tattoos gave him up. According to reports, the two had spent Thanksgiving together in Berlin, Germany. Rihanna had replied to rumors that it was nobody's business and Brown had said that he and Rihanna have histoy and would always be best friends. It might not be anyone's business, but for sure there are comments about it.  Let's check 'em out!

So is this really about Ri-Ri and Chris' relationship itself; or more about how sociologists say that we are actually in the midst of working out, as a society, new forms of relationships, deciding what is and isn't acceptable  - and using celebrities as almost visual aids for that discussion.  Some fascinating research is being done by a trio of female sociologists - Armstrong, Hamilton, England - that is showing a new mind-set is rising in even college age women about completely different attitudes toward sexual relationships than have been witnessed in the past.  So we're not sure if Ri-Ri is actually ahead of her time/right on the curve, or as the third commenter suggests, dragging women back. But one thing is certain, the conversation is part of a larger one of which you should be aware. Remember, flux is  the new norm!

What everyone is talking about, other than the best and worst dresses at the MTV Video Music Awards, is why Rihanna kissed her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. She did that after receiving the Video of the Year award for her song "We Found Love." The kiss sparked immediate speculations that the former couple is back together. Their relationship ended over three years ago after Brown hit her and she brought charges against him. Rihanna admitted in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that Brown is the love of her life. Both reportedly spent time together on Rihanna's yacht in the French Riviera this summer.

What Others Are Saying...

It's hard to tell ... she goes and hugs/kisses the next dude so I don't think that's reconciliation. It's just a hug and congratulatory kiss ... so I think people are freaking out over nothing.

Can people never change? ... Will you really believe he will always hit women because he hit a girl once. ... And he hasn't hit the new girlfriend so I'm just saying do you really think the counseling he received didn't help. ...

Rhianna tries ... to pull the entire female gender back a step. Quit with the weak minded [expletive] women. ... Chris Brown shouldn’t get ... tolerance in any form.

Do the comments show that the public is simply over celebs-behaving-badly, particularly when there is so much more at stake in today's challenging times?  Perhaps.  What is curious, however, is how race - subtly or overtly - seems to come into play into not just the highlighted comments we found below but through the many that we did not post.  Different standards?  Heightened racial times?  One could speculate in many ways.  But the real statistic that we'd like to know is how many meals could have been bought for the homeless based on the amount of Ace of Spades premium champagne bottles that were hurled and wasted?  Yikes!

Despite sources denying that the fight was not over the men’s mutual romantic history with Rihanna, rappers Drake and Chris Brown had a melee in which Brown was hurt, and later reportedly consoled by his former girlfriend Rihanna. Not only were bottle thrown and noses bloodied at the just recently shutdown club W.i.P in Manhattan's hip SoHo neighborhood, but many innocent bystanders were hurt. Let’s examine what commentators are saying regarding celebrity behavior, as such.

...two talented young men who really need to squash the beef. They should be more considerate of the young kids who idol both of them. We pay to hear good music, not about beefing …they should be working together getting more money rather than fighting each other.

Rihanna has been everywhere…she makes all black women look bad. Hell she makes Kim Kardashian look like a saint

People speculate on whether the Chris Brown & Rihanna re-hash is actual or if it is a sales-ploy and what message either sends to fans.

What Others Are Saying...

Rihanna owes her career skyrocket to Chris Brown. Without the whole beating incident... It's not hard to think they're back together or at least working together to milk the media attention.

say good-night Rihanna i have a feeling her career is over...well alot of lost respect anyway....

she's a HORRIABLE example for people. Not just young girls, or women but for ALL people.
