Russian Depute Premier Calls Madonna A Whore

Tue, 08/14/2012 - 10:56am

What's interesting here is how the focus is off the socio-political issue and onto a sexual slur against Madonna demonstrating that  there is still very much an attempt at silencing critique from women by simply addressing gender-related positioning rather than the actual concern itself.  Add celebrity to that, and it becomes even more explosive. For the most part, the comments seem to take one side or the other regarding the name-calling while only few actually stay on topic Madonna is addressing (as exhibited in the third comment).  Who is able to speak and who isn't, without ridicule,  will continue to come up again and again as social inequality becomes and larger and larger issue and more voices contribute to the discussion making this a growing topic in and of itself.  As per a joint study by Harvard and the University of Michigan, this is actually a "rising tide" issue. Got your boat ready?

At one of her performances in Moscow, Madonna wrote the name of the jailed punk-rock band ‘Pussy Riot’ on her back and spoke openly about gay rights. Subsequently, Russian Depute Premier Dmitry Rogozin called her a “s” - shorthand for a whore - on Twitter. Rogozin has made no comment since his tweet, yet fans comment plentifully on the difference between her support of freedom and equality, and his veiling commentary.

What Others Are Saying...

Childish and not very intellectual of him...when all else fails and your own intelligence and maturaity are in question, resort to name-calling and show people your true colors.  He is a political ***** himself.

Rogozin expressed the great majority Russian views, and possibly abroad views as well...Bravo!
