scandal

Naturally, this is a big topic.  The comment arena has more than its fair share of sentiment against the president and even the "system" overall, while of course supporters of his abound.  But maybe this is about something much deeper.  Not only is this about divisiveness, but also a growing interest in our culture regarding transparency, trust and privacy.  These are three words that you must keep at the forefront during this SmartPower era.  While they are held in such key importance, any slight against them is magnified in an exponential manner and then the subject of great debate.  It's been said that the need for transparency will become so great in society that you better even be wearing clean underwear.  Not sure if things will go that far, but let's just say that those Pinocchio's at WashPo probably won't be retiring any time soon.  Yikes! (what's more, this is happening on an international level and citizens of all countries are exchanging values and becoming more empowered over discussions via digital platforms)

It's all about scandal, and we don't mean the series on ABC television.  Much going on in the comment arena regarding breaking stories this week. As if the Benghazi probe weren't enough, the country has found out that not only has the Internal Revenue Service allegedly improperly targeted conservative groups but also that the Justice Department reportedly collected phone records of reporters from the Associated Press.  Talk about "big government."  Now people are pondering how this will affect President Obama's legacy. IRS, FBI, DOJ, AP - it's all being called Alphabet Soup.  But the real story is in what constituents think.  Let's jump to the comment arena and do our own investigation....

The only people that will defend Obama are Blacks... Obama is weak and one of his character flaws is that he can't deal with any criticism and sees anyone as an ENEMY that criticizes him.....

So, as we expected, this is pretty much a yawn fest for the comment arena indicating that the media is still reporting on issues which it thinks are important rather than those that really interest viewers.  No wonder that people are turning to alternatives, huh?  New era, new and bigger concerns for "the people."  Let's move on y'all!

The affair between CIA Director David Petraeus and his biographer Paula Broadwell that caused the spy boss to resign earlier this week is being investigated further.  Although the details of this affair are just starting to come to the surface, CNN reports that it has vast implications for the CIA and foreign policy, stretching even to the attack on the consulate in Benghazi Libya that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. Another report says that Petraeus continued to pursue the woman even after she had broken off the affair with him. The FBI uncovered several emails revealing explicit sexual content between the woman and the former director. These pursuits, FBI agents say, could have distracted him from the attacks and perhaps caused him to report false information to the President about the attacks in Libya. It is also implied that Petraeus resigned immediately to prevent any blackmailing on behalf of foreign intelligence on account of the affair coming to light.  Another article on NBC reports Petraeus denying his affair had any involvement with how the CIA handled the act of terrorism...What do the people have to say about this? Is it all just media hooplah because there's nothing else to report on after the election?

A definite no-no in the SmartPower era:  going against trust and transparency which are growing key values now.  In fact, feelings are so strong about Zakaria's act that he even made Twitter Trending Topic inclusion for several hours yesterday.  This incident could also point to why citizen journalism, as much as traditional journalists hate to believe, is on the rise (see Pew Research stats: 39% of YouTube videos viewed now are news related and a good percentage of those are by citizens). Why?  No agenda, more trustworthy. People sometimes in certain positions now seem to be lying to hold onto relevancy in something which is not becoming as relevant.  Ironic.  And people realize it and discuss exponentially within comments.  Question:  who is gonna take Farie's place on CNN while the suspension takes place?  How about us!  LOL

CNN suspended its host Fareed Zakaria indefinitely after he admitted copying a portion in a recent column on gun control from a New Yorker essay. Time magazine, where Fareed Zakaria is a contributing editor-at-large suspended him for a month while the publication reviews more work authored by Zakaria. In a formal apology, he called the act a “terrible mistake.  Let's see what people think about the man who has often times positioned himself as domestic and international politico absolute!

The kind of people who plagiarize sentences … and not just a catchy phrase … aren’t the kind to write from their heart, and so can’t be trusted anyway. I never understood why such writers didn’t just reference the original text … and then add their own original take on it. …

Why is it so hard for people do just do the work and research?! … They should fire him. There are 200 other equally qualified journalists who would kill to have his job. … . I hate all of these plagiarists. ... They all suck and should be banished, forever, from ever working in the media again.

… I don't tolerate any form of journalistic plagiarism. But I think readers should consider Zakaria is describing a historical event, not an opinion. He should have, without a doubt, at least changed the formatting of the paragraph … but I do not think this is as bad. …

First the GSA scandal, now the Secret Service. In a time where so many have no trust in the government, how does this affect the sense that "leaders" just may be passe in the what we see now as more and more of a "leaderful" era.

Various politicians and government officials weigh in on the Secret Service prostitution scandal.  News media outlet have a field day, or rather field week, reporting on various tidbits. More and more continues to be revealed.

This case is just the proverbial "drop in a bucket."  SS agents have been "getting a little", one way or another, since the Kennedy era... My advice to all Americans is to vote this disgrace out of Washington NOW!
