KKK Wants to Adopt a Highway
We've said it before, and we'll say it again. We are not in a post-racial society but rather, one that is in the midst of examining what race relations mean in a new era of defining relationships, overall. Talk about trying to re-brand! Look for this one to not be settled any time soon.
News coverage abounds regarding the fact that the KKK wants to adopt a one-mile stretch of highway on Route 515 in Georgia. Civil Rights organizations have asked the Department of Transportation in that state to deny the KKK's application. Experts and public, alike, ponder if that is legal and what impact the action would have.
What Others Are Saying...
“I love my race. Does that make me wrong? I’m proud to be white,”... That's fine. However, it's disingenuous to suggest that you can express that love and pride by appropriating and attempting to redefine the brand "KKK" - that organization was founded to terrorize, discriminate against, dehumanize and murder human beings...
now we should all be trying to get the new black panthers to adopt 2 miles, then the kkk will have to adopt 3, and so on. In about 2 years time we will have successfully harnessed racial bigotry to eliminate litter on our roads...
of course they won't be out there in robes, during the day that is, once they adopt the highway i can just picture them invoking all kinds of alledged rights...This just got interesting.
