where the SmartPower generation connects

From the comment sphere, we see the people clearly kicking this one back to the top.  In the SmartPower era, people are very vocal about a number of things - particularly spending and ensuring that those doing the talking about cuts are actually cutting their personal budgets first.  People do not seem to be willing to be inconvenienced as easily as before.  We see this as well with the Yahoo! ban on telecommuting while its CEO has a nursery built to suit her needs.  In a "bottom up" era, it may pay to be sensitive to these shifts and changes in tide, lest one could find him/herself on the rough end of them.  In the meantime, shame Hollywood-Tech can't come up with a virtual offering/experience to help out in White House interest, no?

Among the latest political squables being reported? The White House has announced that all self-guided tours of the "people's house" have been cancelled until further notice due to budget cuts as a result of the sequestration. Given the fact that the White House is a publicly funded building, a new round of mocking has be administered towards President Obama. In his defense Obama says that this situation is not his fault. It is said that once the Secret Service had reportedly pulled some staff from the tours, the White House responded by closing the tours completely.  Seems the issue comes down to saving on the overtime costs that this tour scenario apparently creates. Obama has said, "...to make sure that we've got White House tours that means that you got a whole bunch of families who are depending on a paycheck who suddenly are seeing a five percent or 10 percent reduction in their pay," Obama said. Let's see if the public is buying it.

... Obama always talks like he and his Administration are two different people. One does not agree with the other. Its never his fault =96 its his Administrations fault. He was asleep at the time, or playing golf, or taking a vacation...

The White House belongs to our nation. Obama has no right to declare it off bounds to the public... How about skip his Martha's Vineyard vacation? Or take the $5 million dollars in the bet from Donald Trump and just open up is Harvard records?... That $5 million could fund White House tours for decades, but isn't enough for ONE vacation for the Obama's to Hawaii.

The economy is Bush's fault. Can't pass a budget? Republicans' fault. Sequestration? Republicans' fault. Obama is unable to overcome any roadblock. He's tacitly admitted to be the weakest president in US history...

Well, not much sympathy here.  Definitely a bad time in history to be doing such antics. Transparency is paramount in the SmartPower era and buying such things as gold rolexes in the corner is not looked upon lightly.  Interesting how his actions are being attributed to depression, et al.  It is no wonder that bottom up gains more speed and energy when such actions are committed by those in positions of authority.  In the meantime, guess all we can say to Mr. Jackson Jr is to keep hope alive that things don't become any worse.

When not discussing yet another impending fiscal crisis, all media eyes are on former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. pleading guilty in federal court to charges from the misuse of campaign funds. According to media reports, Jackson told the judge, “Sir, for years I lived off my campaign.  I used money I shouldn’t have used for personal purposes.” Jackson Jr. resigned from office once it became clear that federal officials had a case against him for using campaign funds for personal expenses. According to prosecutors, Jackson Jr. paid for memorabilia, trips, expensive watches and clothes.  The former congressman admitted to spending $750,000 in campaign funds, including $43,350 on a gold Rolex watch. His wife, Sandra Jackson, is expected to also plead guilty this afternoon before U.S. District Judge Robert L. Wilkins. Jackson told the court he had no interest in going through a trial. “I have no interest in wasting the tax payers’ time or money,” Jackson said. Jackson could face 47 to 57 months in prison, but the judge warned him repeatedly that he could give a longer or shorter sentence. The sentencing will be held Friday, June 28th at 2 p.m.  Now to see what constituents and others think!

The news media is surprised? How many past Chicago politicians have been imprisoned or lost office for shady dealings? They are above the laws that govern the rest of us. Just another slimy politician. His dad has made a career out of extortion while hiding behind being a reverend. He has learned from some of the best...

Jesse Jr. is so typical of the liberals who represent inner cities. And the people keep re-electing them! Jesse got over 80% of the vote last November when all this stuff was coming down in the media... I would love to see him and his old man share a cell for several years!

Now after using up some close to over a million dollars of taxpayers money for his personal use and living high on the hog, this self interest, self righteous politician does not waist taxpayers money is ironic. The real point is much more of his corrupt life is going to come out in a trial and the the public would want a rope around his neck...

So was it hackers or was it not?  Consumers seem to think so, no matter what information to "clarify" was released.  This would seem to indicate that such uncertainty and vulnerability is so much indicative of the new era that it has come to be expected.  (see video for 9/12 for more on this and help)

The Internet Domain Registrar GoDaddy was unavailable for six hours on Tuesday morning because of internal infrastructure problems. The issue was not a hacker, as initially presumed. According to reports, no data has been compromised. Millions of websites that GoDaddy.com hosts were offline. The hacking rumors began after a Twitter user with the AnonymousOwn3r tweeted he was behind the problem. Other reasons to doubt the hosting company was hacked include GoDaddy's support for Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA). Nevertheless, people had quite a lot to say about the issue.

What?  Minaj do something just to try and draw attention to herself? Never! LMAO But what is interesting here is not so much the debate as to whether celebs should get involved in politics (though that is obviously still present and represented below), but how a Black recording artist (whether playful or authentic) has created a conversation about the fact that maybe the Black-Democrat automatic luv expectancy should start to become questioned  a bit more. Leave it to Nicki.  The anger around the action, the finger-pointing of dissension from the ranks is the real social hot button.  And not only a person of color, but a female of color creates even greater furvor.  How dare her! Let's see where Nicki goes on this one.  She has the stage. Will she chang that pink lipstick to an even brighter hue and  run with it for all it's worth? Placing bets.

Nicki Minaj, born in Trinidad and Tobago but raised in New York City, publicly announced on fellow-rapper Lil Wayne's mix tape "Dedication 4" that she was going to vote for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. It is not clear whether Minaj is registered to vote in the U.S. Some celebrities don't believe Minaj is serious about her political preferences. Rapper Talib Kweli tweeted that in his opinion Minaj is only trying to draw some attention to herself. The fans think....

Race and language surrounding it in this country is surely cause for discussion.  Language with racial overtones still seems to be used frequently and seems to be much more likely than ever to get negative attention.  In a interesting ethnographic study, sociologist Amanda Lewis examined the dynamics of race in a predominantly white community. While many in the community subscribe to a color-blind ideology, in which people are seen “as individuals, not as races,” Lewis found that racial formations continue to be very present in social interactions. It's concluded that discussions involving/pertaining to  race need to finally move beyond the concept where whiteness is neutral and blackness is other - metaphors or not.  What may be interesting to note is that the divide is what is being picked up on by most commenters, whether for or against.  This is a trend to continue to watch.  But how did Russell Simmons become the spokesperson for all Black sentiment on this Biden issue, by the way? Don't believe the hype, Kidz.

ice President Joe Biden said in a speech in Danville, Va., that Mitt Romney’s policies regarding deregulating Wall Street will “put y’all back in chains.” After Republicans called the remarks outrageous, Biden said he misspoke and wanted to use the word “unshackle.” Congressmen and Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan has used “unshackle” before in a speech about the economy and GOP proposals. Biden said he was using the Republicans’ own words.  Lots o' talk on this one.

What Others Are Saying...

If a Republican said something like that can you imagine what the media would do with it. Biden is a racist prick ...  The Democratic party is about nothing more than dividing the country with hate and fear ....  They will cause a civil war in order to be re-elected and blame it on white people.

Source:

I love it. … I’ve never seen the democrats go on the offense and fight like this. … Now since the Democrats are … doing all the punching, the Republicans just don't know how to defend.

Source:

Biden’s remark is fair, even if dramatically metaphorical. The consumer debt explosion in housing is what got us here ... Many homeowners are still underwater and quite literally chained to those homes …

File this one under, "ouch!"  In a country which seems to be more, rather than less, hyper-sensitive about race; one has to consider what reaction will be to certain expressed thoughts.  As we are not in a post-racial, but rather an era of further examination of race; watch for more awkward positions to occur as people figure out what is and isn't appropriate for today's society....or maybe Frank such just let comedians such as Bil Maher stick to jokes?  You make the decision.

Congressman Barney Frank appears at the University of Massachusetts Darmouth commencement this past weekend and comments that the hooded robe that civil rights leader Hubie Jones received will enable him to now a hoodie for which he won't get shot (referring to the Trayvon Martin incident).  The comment draws mixed responses at the ceremony, and even more on line.

What Others Are Saying...

...what an idiot.

Source:

I liked the joke. What’s ‘awkward’ about it? Zimmerman is a racist who was armed and hungry for action. He should not have killed Trayvon Martin. Martin was wearing a hoodie. I have a problem with headline writers who put subjective words like “awkward” into a headline who don’t tow the same responsible objective line in reporting facts as the journalists who write the underlying article...
