For all the complaints, we still see lines to buy the product and watch the stock prices soar.  Are these rumblings to track or simply the usual quirks that take place when new devices and software are introduced.  There is a theory that says that we are living in a culture of constant complaints rather than a culture of common good.  Perhaps, but if the complaints lead to examination which then leads to a more solid culture; there could be value in it.   Ya know, Apple did fall short of the Wall Street predictions for the phone (which was $6-$10 million in first weekend, rather than the "lackluster" 5 million . Hmmm......) We'll have to watch and see, but one thing is for sure.  People are already using Twitter to help each other figure out the map situation.  We're sure their frustration is tempered by being able to whip out one of the hottest status symbols for the week, no?

Not everything about the new version of iPhone 5 is scoring high with the users. Apple has a map application, which is meant to replace Google Maps for the phone. The app is a central feature in the new smartphone but it is, instead, frustrating to customers. The map is missing certain public transit stops, roads look curly and some buildings are not on the map at all. Apple said in a statement the the app is a major initiative and the company is continually improving it.  The technorati has what to say?

What Others Are Saying...

This is the same "darling" company we all love and admire, why are we falling into this heavy criticizing culture. ... Apple didn't create a Maps app overnight ... It is a shame now that Apple and Google have become such giants and competing more and more in the same space. ... The consumers are the victims in terms of prices or choices in our favorite devices. ... This is an app that will improve over time. ...

... It's full of fail, you would be right ... The new maps app is not impressive in any way, nor does it begin to approach what the competition is offering. ... It was clearly rushed to market before it was really ready. ...

... If there's a regression in maps, I think I'll wait. Unless Google has a map app of their own that's just as good as the old bundled one.

So, the Apple critique continues.  Love it or hate it, people will probably be checking for this device.  But the move to up the ante in the number of releases per year is tellling, and consumers seem to be optimistic yet wary.  What's it mean for Apple?  That the company will have to continue to challenge itself in new ways to remain in position.  Funny that economics seem to make no impact on new phone releases, though.  Hmmmmm......

Apple is reportedly planning to officially introduce its new iPhone on Sept. 12. A September release would be slightly ahead of Apple's established one-iPhone-per-year pace. Slightly larger screen and a smaller dock connector are among the new features that are speculated the new device will have. Another expected feature is NFC technology that would make it easier for shoppers to make payments through their phones. The iPhone is still the most popular handset in the smartphone field, but Google's Android is catching up in terms of sales.  Lots of talk on this one.

What Others Are Saying...

I'm looking forward to the next iPhone release but let’s face it: … NFC, better notifications, better processor … is what everyone is doing today. … Apple is falling to follower status. The 4S was absolutely nothing to brag about. ... The last time Apple showed everyone "how it was done" was a few years ago.

Like every other device in the world Apple uses their rivals to build their products. Let's take away Apples orders for Samsung products and see how well Samsung does. … No company manufactures their entire product start to finish

iP4 user here who is likely to get the next iPhone. … The leaked images are meh, but I expect what will get me is the whole package. ... I really do think android phones are winning (dominating) the feature wars... It would be nice to see something that puts the wow back in the iPhone, but sadly I don't expect it this September.
